Palash Muchhal’s Mother Says He Wanted to Postpone Wedding Before Smriti Mandhana Called It Off; Families Cite Health Emergencies

The unexpected postponement of Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal’s wedding on 23 November has triggered widespread speculation online. However, Palash’s mother, Amita Muchhal, has now revealed new details, clarifying that her son had already decided to delay the ceremony even before Smriti made the call.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Amita shared that Palash shares an exceptionally close bond with Smriti’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, whom he fondly calls “uncle”. When Shrinivasji suddenly fell ill on the morning of the wedding, Palash immediately felt the ceremony should not continue.

“Palash is emotionally attached to his uncle a lot. In fact, they are closer than Palash and Smriti. So when he became unwell, Palash decided—even before Smriti—that the wedding should not take place until he fully recovers,” Amita said. She added that the family fully supported the decision.

Soon after haldi celebrations, Palash himself experienced a sudden health scare. Amita said he was overwhelmed with stress and had to be taken to the hospital, where he remained under observation for four hours. Tests, including ECG, showed normal results, but doctors advised rest due to high stress levels. He has now been moved back to Mumbai to recuperate.

Meanwhile, Smriti’s father continues to remain under medical observation after developing chest discomfort resembling heart-attack symptoms. Both families agreed that proceeding with the wedding was not appropriate under such circumstances.

Smriti, who is extremely close to her father, later removed all wedding-related posts from her social media accounts, including engagement and proposal videos, further fuelling speculation.

Speculation and Rumours Flood Social Media

In the absence of an official statement from either side, social media has been rife with rumours. Some users linked the event to “nazar” (evil eye), saying the couple’s open sharing of wedding moments brought bad luck. Others circulated unverified screenshots and allegations involving Palash—but none of these claims have been confirmed by either family or by any credible source.

Digital platforms have since removed several posts due to their unverified nature, and experts have urged caution against spreading misinformation.

Search Trends Surge

Between 24 and 25 November, searches for “Smriti Mandhana” surged sharply on Google India as fans sought clarity on the sudden postponement.

For now, both families request privacy as they focus on health and recovery. No new wedding date has been announced yet.
